Floating Bamboo Wood Floors
For an innovative alternate choose a floating bamboo wood floor. Solid bamboo must be nailed or glued down whereas engineered products - constructed with a wear layer that is laminated to a wood core - may also be floated. Tongue and groove longstrip planks can be installed as floating floors over a wooden subfloor or concrete. The cement should be at least 60 days old so that dampness does not damage the floor. Do-it-yourself
Try a straightforward DIY installation with glueless click together tile systems. Gently use a tapping block to fit boards and look for a torque locking system that uses a bow shape in the plank to lock the tiles. Tape made especially for a floating bamboo floor may be used to secure the floor. Installation advice
Bamboo wood floors will expand and contract with humidity and temperature variations - allow 1/16" expansion for every 27". Lay strips parallel to the longest wall and make sure the first row is straight. Stagger joints so a random pattern is created and install from different boxes to ensure a mix of materials. Protect bamboo floors during construction or moving by laying rosin paper - never place plastic or polyethylene because trapped moisture will harm the surface. Contemporary choices
Natural bamboo hardwood is manufactured in horizontal or vertical cane configurations and prefinished with layers of tough UV cured polyurethane and aluminum oxide. Order samples to match your interior home decor. |
