Basement Floors from Mannington

Basement floors are hard, cold, uncomfortable and sometimes damp. However, once proper precautions have been taken you can install and floor and enjoy a finished basement. Choose almost any type of floor covering - whether engineered hardwood, vinyl or ceramic tile. The experts that design Mannington flooring products offer the latest fashion trends for home remodeling - including basements.

Preparation of concrete

Prepare cement floors by putting down 2x4" lengths of wood (called sleepers), spaced 16 inches apart. Cover with 6mm plastic and then lay down 5/8 plywood. If you will be installing carpet, laminate or hardwood, cover with roofing felt first.

Apply mastic directly to the plywood before laying vinyl tiles or sheets. Ceramic tiles require a solid surface so they won't crack. If the basement does not get wet, cement boards can be nailed directly to the floor. If dampness is a problem, go with the sleeper construction and subfloor.

Mannington's many options

Tough laminate floors by Mannington are manufactured with the look of hardwoods, slate or stone. Durability and simple maintenance makes laminates suitable as basement flooring. To prevent stains from an asphalt driveway make sure the pavement is sealed with a latex based sealer.

Mannington resilient flooring is extremely versatile with one hundred designs and 300 colors to choose from. Patented processes protect from rips, tears and gouges. A urethane wearlayer system makes basement floors easy to clean and able to resist stains - just sweep and damp mop. Vinyl flooring is an especially good choice if the basement is used for family activities.

Engineered wood floors can be installed below grade in a basement. The 5 ply cross grain construction will not warp or buckle.
