Install Carpet Tile the Easy Way with Modular SquaresWhen replacing or adding a new floor, installing carpet tiles is one of the easiest ways to go. Laying carpet can be an awkward messy job, but tiles make it quick and easy - and few special tools are needed. Modular tiles were originally used for commercial installation but they've become quite popular for residential applications. The main advantage of carpet squares is that a damaged or worn-out area can be replaced without buying and installing all new carpets. It also allows access to under the floor plumbing or wiring. Keep your carpets looking new
It's easy to replace worn, stained or ruined carpet squares. When ordering, purchase more than you need - the dye lot can change and the color may not match an older version. Another alternative is to take a tile from underneath furniture and switch it with a damaged square from a high-traffic area. Design your own carpet
Any room is served well by tiles, and although not as dense as rolled carpet, it works just as well in both high and low traffic areas. 18"x18" sizes are most common and come in varying thicknesses and patterns and hundreds of different colors. Note that seams are highly visible since each tile is an individual section. Larger 36" x 36" tiles by Milliken, Interface and Shaw Industries limit the number of sides, but don't expect them, to appear as one piece like broadloom carpet. Rather than try to hide the edges, take advantage and create a pattern. One option is to install carpet tiles, quarter turning each one to change the manufactured pile direction for a checkerboard effect. Carpet Tile Installation
Carpet backing may be either dry-backed or self-sticking. A special adhesive is needed to install dry-back tiles, while double-faced tape on non adhesive carpet tiles works for a less permanent job. This style of carpeting can be installed almost anywhere but is not recommended for use in a below-ground area because of mildew. Make certain the floor is clean and dry before laying the tile. |
